I love the warm yellows and oranges fall inspires, and my essentials really reflect that. The Stay Hydrated meme is honestly pretty good advice that I've taken to heart. The change of seasons and transition to a northeast winter always kills my skin, so I've been trying to drink more always. The Bobble charcoal filtered water bottle- adorable, but also is a great size for daily use and throwing in my bag for a day of classes. I love the lavender too. Not Only Juice bottles of fresh pressed juice- they're great for making sure I'm getting all the necessary nutrients, especially when it's been a really lazy day cooking-wise. Bolthouse Farms Stone Fruits flavor- I love it. With peach, apricot, plum, and nectarine, it's super delicious, but also really nutritious. Furiously Happy by Jenny Lawson- a great novel for those struggling with depression or anxiety, or anyone who wants insight into mental illness. Plus look at that happy little raccoon... Marc Jacobs Daisy- this perfume has been out forever, but it's my go-to fall scent. Philosophy Apricots and Cream lotion- this lotion is heavily scented and is great at counteracting the fall dry skin. Zhena's Gypsy Tea in Brazilian Berry- a great decaf tea for late fall night. DW Home candle in Lavender Chamomile- this richly scented candle is really nice for relaxation, and the lavender chamomile only helps. Essie nail polish in topless & barefoot- a great fall neutral that doesn't bring out the red tones in my hands and takes ages to chip.

Green Boots (From Barneys New York)- These are such a pretty color and perfect for Fall! Superga Sneakers (From Lord and Taylor)- Super comfy and they go with everything, great for transitioning from Summer to Fall, I think. Lace Shawl (From H&M)- I really like lace and this is great to throw on top of any outfit to make it a little dressier. Pink Striped Notebook (From TJ Maxx)- I’m obsessed with stripes and this is so pretty, I have yet to decide what to use it for. Robot Tea Infuser (Found on Amazon)- It’s so fun to start a morning with this little guy brewing my tea! Bath and Body Works Wallflower- Great for dorm rooms, or anywhere. These things do a great job of filling the room with a nice scent and I love picking out seasonal scents for them! I currently have the scent “Leaves” in my bedroom, and “Brown Sugar Allspice” in my bathroom, combined together they make my dorm feel so cozy! Royal Flush Poo-Pourri (From Walgreens)- Kind of odd, and I was skeptical when my mom got this for me, but if you share a communal bathroom, this spray is great to keep everything smelling clean and worth having around- your floor will thank you. Airspun Loose Face Powder (From WalMart)- I bought this spur-of-the-moment last month because it looked cool and vintage-y and I’ve been using it almost everyday. I got it in the shade “naturally neutral” and it’s nice for days I just want light coverage to keep my skin from getting oily. Burt’s Bees Hand Salve (From Walgreens)- This is always in my bag and just a little bit does wonders for keeping hands moisturized. EOS Lip Balm (From Target)- I’ve accumulated a lot of these because they work so well! Giraffe Mask/Postcards (Giraffe decoration from South Africa, Postcards from London, Paris, Luxembourg, and Berlin)- Postcards are such an easy and inexpensive souvenir to pick up during your travels and are really fun to have on display! The postcards are from various cities in Europe I visited with Allison last January and I got the giraffe mask during my first time travelling abroad in South Africa. I like having little reminders of the places I’ve been around my room because they bring back wonderful memories. (The glow-in-the-dark star next to the giraffe mask is one of the 135 that Allison used to decorate the room the three of us shared during Freshman year and I’ve kept this one to put up every year since.)
I spent the summer in Oneonta, NY at an archaeology field school dig, working at my college, and babysitting. These are a few of the things I've been loving. The Body Shop Tea Tree face wash, toner, and moisturizer have been great for keeping my skin clean and clear even in the summer heat. ELF corrective concealer Bobbi Brown oil-free tinted moisturizer I don’t wear much make-up during the summer, just a bit of light foundation. Hat- H&M This is super fun to wear around when the mood hits, it makes anything feel classy. I really like this hat's vintage feel. Bigelow I Love Lemon Tea- Delicious hot or iced, plus I feel really healthy drinking it since it has a day’s worth of Vitamin C in it. I’ve gotten into lemons lately... Can you tell? Lemon shorts are from Forever 21. These fit so well- soft and comfy, but the high waist and tight cut makes them a little fancy, yet still very fun. I get compliments every time I wear them, because how many people have lemon shorts? Marvelous Oil- Garnier Fructis I’ve been using this stuff for a year now and it is perfect for anything- it keeps my hair soft and just a few drops combed through after a shower/swimming made it air dry quickly and minimizes frizz. Field School necessities (aside from a trowel and bucket) included these sandals from Teva. I thought these were kind of ugly when I first bought them before my trip to South Africa two years ago, but they've been my favorite things to wear lately and so useful. I hate wearing socks in the summer and these shoes are so sturdy, they’re perfect for hiking or running around. The open toe is also great because water doesn’t get stuck in them and it prevents some awkward tan-lines, plus the design of the shoe keeps my toes out of harm’s way for the most part. The water bottle is a Brita Sport Bottle. Filtered water bottles are amazing for travel/making chlorine-y water at an environmental campus drinkable. This one is a great size to fit in a bag and doesn’t leak either, no matter how hard I shake it. Aerie lace bralette- Everyone needs one, they're so much more comfortable and just as cute as a real bra. Susan inspired me to get one because she swears by bralettes.
I found this huge “A” mug at TJ Maxx, because so much tea in one cup! Game of Thrones by George R.R. Martin-I finally started reading the series and it’s even better than the show, obviously. American Eagle Striped “Soft and Sexy” Hoodie- I’m not a big hoodie-wearer, but I love the snuggly-softness of this hoodie and I wore it every rainy day. Moleskine notebook- I really like stripes, and I’ve been making it a habit to have a little notebook with me everywhere so I can write down ideas I have. Dell Venue 7 Tablet (case from Amazon)- I never thought I’d have a tablet, but I love the size of this and it’s quite handy to carry around it fits right in my purse instead of a laptop or having to work with my phone, plus it is nice to be able to start reading a book on a tablet as soon as it interests you I've been eating loads of apples lately, they're a great summer snack. Coasters- a gift from a friend all the way from Paris tracing the Paris subways. You gotta have something to put your tea on, right? With fall just around the corner as August comes to an end, it’s time to swap out our summer clothes for our fall wardrobes (or not, if you’re like me and wear the same clothes year-round). So whether you’re like me or not, here are my essentials for fall. Striped t-shirt dress from Forever 21 Maroon circle scarf from Primark Navy mason jar mug from Ocean State Job Lot Black boots by Divided (purchased at H&M) “Country Apple” body lotion from Bath & Body Works Lipton tea in “Purple Açai and Blueberry” Stone necklace from Forever 21 Plaid flannel shirt by Haband White high-top sneakers by Converse Hand painted rock art from a local artisan in the shape of a kitten Candles from Yankee Candle in Hazelnut Coffee (top) and Cinnamon Toast (bottom) Small black crossbody by Kenneth Cole Reaction Nail polish by OPI in the shade “Visions of Love” Lip cream by NYX in Soft Matte Lip Cream “Copenhagen” And of course, no fall list is complete without a gingerbread mix (courtesy of a local craftsman shop).
Simple cleansing micellar water
Simple eye make-up remover Bioré self heating one minute mask Post it big pad 11"x11" The Women Widowed to Themselves by Lora Mathis (Available through Where Are You Press) 'CATFINATED' mug from Francesca's (Thank you Michaela for the birthday gift) August has been full of stress, as I gear up to go back to school, while also juggling Bruised Knuckles and a retail job. My skin has been breaking out like crazy and these three products have done wonders. The toner and make-up remover are oil free and leave no gross residue behind and the mask sucks all the yuck out of my pores. Plus, the self heating part feels amazing. I've been using these giant post its as reminders, notes, and even to post my work schedule. The size and color make them impossible to ignore, and I love that they scan into the Evernote app for a mobile reminder as well. The Women Widowed to Themselves by Lora Mathis is an amazing collection of poetry. Mathis knows the right words for every situation and her raw, candid voice is a welcome change. My new cat mug has been a source of unending amusement while I drink coffee and put on makeup every morning (especially when my cat tries to stick his face in.) |
