Everybody needs a little zen and this is a (hopefully) comprehensive guide to finding your own. Meditation has a slew of benefits and just about zero cons (yes it's in investment of time, but so is Netflix..) I suggest laying on your back, as relaxed as possible in comfortable clothes with your eyes closed.
Focus on your breathing and all aspects of it. Think about the temperature of the air coming in and going out, thing about your chest expanding and contracting, rising, and falling. Take note of the feeling of being full of air, then empty, then full. Think about the slight pauses between each inhale and exhale and the next inhale. Think about how you do this every second of everyday and don't have to think about it. Become in awe of your capabilities. The key here is to focus in on that one act; breathing. Dismiss all other thoughts. Don't become frustrated when your mind wanders, because that's what the mind does, and those thoughts are valuable, just acknowledge them and dismiss them and say to yourself 'yes, maybe, but not right now.' If this isn't enough calm for you, try the water method. Lay in the same position and try to imagine the sensation of warm water on your body. Start at your toes, as if you are being lowered into a pool of warm soothing water. Go slowly and feel the water gently rise, up over your feet, your ankles, slowly. Continue this up your body, all the way up your torso, even over your head. These methods are surefire ways to bring a little zen into your daily life. Try to work at least 15 minutes of meditation into your daily life and you'll find yourself less stressed and more able to tackle whatever you need to.
